ASMALL business has been granted a license to sell merchandise with official Armed Forces insignia on.

The husband-and-wife pair behind Stitches R Us, based in Milnrow, hope that it will allow them to take a step forward with their clothing company.

In their eighth year, the Newhey Road firm is now allowed to sell clothing with badges and emblems from the Army, Navy and RAF.

Angela Cullen, 54, said: “A lot of people ask us can we do this that and the other and because we have not had the license we have not been able to do it properly. To have that extra niche to what we do makes me really grateful.

“It’s just giving something back to our servicemen as well.”

Her husband, Nigel, 57, served in Northern Ireland and Germany as a radio technician so has lots of military connections, which they hope will help with their new venture.

Formerly a carer for 17 years to her mum, Angela has come a long with the business which started out as a hobby. She said: “I was at a bit of a loss and started off when I was at a home wondering what to do with myself.

“It was a lot of hard work. The unit in Milnrow was just four walls. We physically built it and basically were just doing the best we could with what we had before.”

The couple, who live in Diggle, had to go through a lengthy process to get the license and believe the nearest alternative for customers is located in Huddersfield.

They will soon be setting up a dedicated website to sell their products
