Park inspires Boro to Bury demolition

-

THE stop/start nature of Littleborough’s season did not appear to be having a negative affect as the team was on top of its game in the victory against Bury, producing their best display of the season so far inspired largely by captain Chris Park.

Boro were immediately on the attack at the start of the game, and they continued in similar vein throughout the contest to clinch the win in style.

They quickly overcame Bury’s defensive line just two minutes in with a successful penalty. Boro were winning ball in lineouts and were rarely put under threat from the home side, bar one break forward which came to nothing.

Stand off Jack Whittles crossed the line for the game’s first try 15 minutes in, but no conversion.

Boro were completely in charge and soon after Mathew Goldthorpe raced through to score the first of his two tries in the game, this time converted by Jack Whittles.

Murphy Holt replaced Olly Bamford at prop forward but the game continued with the visitors in charge. Andy Walton showed good defensive play, followed with great passing through the threequarters to bring in fullback Park and he completely baffled the opposition to cross the line for Boro’s third try and the best of the match – unfortunately there was no conversion.

Boro showed no signs of easing off and Chris Park once more led the team forward. Quick thinking by Boro’s scrum half Chris Kolbuck gained the visitors their next try, Kolbuck passing the ball to the blindside of the scrum to his winger Andy Roberts and he crossed the line for Boro’s fourth, still no conversion.

Boro,s brilliant first half display ended with the home side enjoying a 25-0 lead having played some superb rugby.

The commencement of second half was a continuation of Boro’s first half dominace. They were immediately on the attack once more, playing some great passing much to the appreciation of the large crowd of their supporters, especially provided by young B Watts from Boro’s under 18s team who stepped in at Scrum Half to relieve Kolbuck and continued feeding his support players to great effect.

Still having most of the play, Boro eventually got their first try of the second half via Goldthorpe and this time the score was followed with a conversion by Nathan Coop.

Then, finally, with only five minutes play remaining, Adam Wayne proved his player quality and crossed the line for Boro’s final try, again converted by Coop. It was followed by the final whistle to bring Bury’s misery to an end.

Considering this was Boro’s first match in two weeks, they were at their very best, everyone of them played to a high standard, the best so far this season, and all praise goes to their coaches, Chris Coop and Stephen Hepworth, for their training and guidance and also for introducing younger club players for experience.
