Man killed in horror road crash named

AMAN killed when a car he was driving swerved off the M6 motorway and hit a bridge has been named as Tibor Petrovics.

The 35-year-old, who was living in Rochdale at the time, was driving a Mercedes which the police said ‘left the carriagewa­y’ on a southbound stretch of the motorway on November 5 and then collided with a bridge.

Police said Mr Petrovics suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigat­ion continuing.

An inquest into Mr Petrovics’ death is due to is be opened at a coroner’s court in Lancashire next week.

The hearing has been set for next Monday.

It’s likely to be adjourned to a later date by a coroner ahead of a full hearing.

No further details have been released.

Police at the time launched an appeal for anyone with informatio­n, or dash-cam footage, to come forward.

The tragedy happened on the motorway between junction 33 for Galgate and 32 for the Broughton Interchang­e, close to Garstang, in Lancashire.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 8.35pm.

Police said the man’s family were being supported by specialist officers.

In a statement issued the day after the collision, Lancashire Police said: “We were called shortly after 8.35pm last night, Tuesday, to reports of a collision on the motorway between junctions 33 and 32, close to Garstang.

“A Mercedes had been travelling on the southbound side of the motorway when it left the carriagewa­y and collided with a bridge.

“The driver of the vehicle, a 35-year-old man from Rochdale, suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“His family have been informed and are now being supported by specialist officers.”

Nobody else injured.

The road was closed was for around eight hours for accident investigat­ion.

Police are appealing for witnesses to get in touch and want to hear from anyone who was travelling southbound and either saw the collision or the scene beforehand.

Sergeant Phil Baxendale said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

“We are now working hard to establish exactly what occurred and are appealing to anybody who saw the collision, or who saw the vehicle in the moments before the collision, to get in touch with us straight away.

“We would also like to hear from anybody who has dash-cam footage of the incident.”
