Boro ease to victory in best show yet

- LITTLEBOROUGH 66 ASHTON U LYNE 7

LITTLEBOROUGH enjoyed a comfortable victory when they faced Ashton at Rakewood.

Tries from wingers Liam Lloyd and Andy Roberts set the tone with Mathew Goldthorpe adding another.

Two of those tries were converted by Jack Whittles, all within the first 12 minutes.

Continued great pressure by Boro forwards soon put further points on the board for Boro with a second try from Goldthorpe and conversion by Whittles.

Then the visitors started to get more involved in the game and eventually putting pressure into the scrum they won the ball which eventually gave them, their first and only try, which they converted, after 28 minutes play.

Just before half time Whittles went over the line for his first try, converted by Lloyd to end the first half 33-7.

The second half started with great ball passing play by Boro which eventually saw Whittles cross the line for his second try, converted by Nathan Coop.

The game then developed into a lot of kicking out of hand by both teams until Goldthorpe put in another good attacking run. This was soon followed with an excellent attacking run from Roberts which ended with a penetrating run from David Kearns for yet another good try by Boro, converted by Lloyd.

With the home forwards winning most of the ball and feeding their threequarters, Roberts crossed the line again for his second try, converted by Lloyd.

Whittles put in a great distance ball kick forwards which was chased by winger Lloyd to pick up and cross the line for his second try of the day.

Towards the end of the match a breakaway run from Boro’s Adam Wayne brought the home side their final converted try of the afternoon and it was followed by the referee’s whistle to end a tremendous game for Boro, probably their best performance of the season up to this point in the campaign.
