Carers enjoy right good day

-

CARERS across the borough enjoyed free health checks and pamper sessions at the annual Rochdale’s Carers’ Rights Day.

Hundreds of carers of all ages attended Rochdale Football Club’s Ratcliffe Suite to learn more about the dedicated help, support and advice available to them throughout the year.

Organisers Rochdale Carers’ Hub said the aim of the day was to raise awareness and ensure the 25,000 carers across the borough were aware of their various rights.

Local organisations were on hand to provide advice and information, including Living Well, Alzheimer’s Society, Thinking Ahead, Rochdale Mind, and Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Circle – a local membership organisation open to anyone over the age of 50. Staff from the council’s adult care team also attended and carers enjoyed free health checks, pamper sessions, assessments, financial help, advice on winter fuel savings, advocacy and dementia support.

The event was officially opened by the carers’ choir, who belted out timeless classics to ensure the day started on the right note.

Councillor Billy Sheerin, Mayor of Rochdale, said: “This was a Carers’ Rights Day to remember and I was proud to attend and support our wonderful carers, who do such a brilliant job looking after their loved ones.

“It was great to see carers of all ages in attendance and everything about the day was very special

“Our 25,000 carers are some of the unsung heroes of the borough and this event was all about thanking them for their wonderful work, as Rochdale showcased its caring side.”
