Young Apprentices show business nous

WITH the latest winner of The Apprentice just announced, pupils at one school have been showing off their own entrepreneurial skills.

Children at Holy Trinity C of E Primary School, in Littleborough, raised £440 during their Enterprise Week event to show skills that would rival Rochdale’s own Lewis Ellis, who narrowly missed out on a place in the BBC show’s final.

Pupils were given the chance to learn about the business world first-hand, with each class given the responsibility to come up with and implement a money-making scheme to raise maximum profits.

Teacher Jenna Bradford said their Enterprise Week is always a highlight of the year at the Victoria Street school.

She said: “It is fantastic to watch the children’s energy and enthusiasm as they take their projects from ideas stage to sales, and there is no better way to help them learn about business than giving them chance to run their own.

“The end of week sale, in particular, is a valuable exercise as not only do the children get the buzz from seeing how well their products sell, but it’s also great money-handling experience with even our youngest Reception pupils enjoying the buying and selling of wares.”

Pen pots, bird feeders, pom-poms, Harry Potter wands and portable games were just some of the in-demand items that the children worked hard to make and then market and sell to fellow pupils.

Mrs Bradford added: “It’s not all been about business brains though on the same day as our Enterprise Sale, the children and their families demonstrated real heart with a huge amount of donations for our Rochdale Foodbank collection. We have been especially proud of our school community this week.”
