CELEBRATIONS were in full swing as one great-greatgrandmother turned 100 years old.

Jessie Moody, who has lived in Rochdale for the last quarter century, was joined on the big day by friends and family at HCOne’s Oakland care home.

Born in Southport on December 5 1919, she went on to marry and have her daughter, Barbara, with her first husband, who sadly passed away when their daughter was two years old.

Jessie later remarried and had her son Tony, before her family eventually expanded to include two stepdaughters, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Throughout her life, she has lived in various parts of the country including Manchester, where she worked in an office, and Portsmouth, where she moved with her first husband, who was in the merchant navy.

Jessie moved to Rochdale when she was 75 years old and lived in the Passmonds area.

When asked what her secret is to a long and happy life, Jessie said she loves a good chat and ‘isn’t afraid to tell people off ’ when necessary.

Staff at Oakland arranged a special birthday party to celebrate Jessie’s big day, as her loved ones were invited to join in with the celebrations.

Oakland’s lounge area was dressed with decorations in Jessie’s favourite colours, as the centenarian opened her gifts and enjoyed a special buffet containing all of her favourite foods.

Amcia Hara, Home Manager at Oakland, said: “At HC-One, we make every effort to ensure our residents celebrate their special occasions in the best way possible.

“Jessie is such an inspirational lady for everyone living and working at Oakland, so it was brilliant to celebrate her 100th birthday with her as we treated her like a queen for the day.”

Located on Bury Road, Oakland offers short and long term care packages for older members of the community needing residential and residential dementia care.
