ACHURCH film club has had its best attendance ever.

The film Fishermen’s Friend was shown at the Ian Newman Community Film Club earlier this month with 94 people attending.

Now in its third year the club held at the Bamford Chapel and Norden URC, Norden Road, Rochdale, has screened twentyfive films of differing genres.

The admission cost has remained at £3 with various minor fun raising activities help to boost the churches’ income.

Lesley Sutton said: “So many people to thank for supporting this venture, especially Councillor Pat Sullivan who helped financially at the outset through Rochdale Township Fund. She continues to be part of the planning team.

“Her advice and help at the outset were invaluable. Ten people are on the team, each one having a specific role. It works well.

“Chatting with visitors to the club, who come from as far away as Littleborough and Milnrow, they like the cosy atmosphere, friendliness, warm welcome and the feeling of safety being out on a Saturday evening.

“For many who live alone, once a month there is somewhere to go which isn’t far away and doesn’t cost a fortune. Everyone is welcome.”

The film club was first suggested by a muchloved church member Ian Newman.

Sadly Ian Newman died of cancer in 2014 but those with whom he shared this hope have brought it to fruition.

“On Saturday, September 16 we showed our first film. It enables us to open the church up to the community and invite them in to the Chapel.”

The evenings begin at 6.30pm with refreshments. The film starts rolling at 7pm. Films for 2020 are:

• February 15 - Christopher Robin (PG)

• April 18 - Another Mother’s Son (12)

• May 16 - Victoria and Abdul (12)

• June 20 - Stan and Ollie (PG)

• July 18 - The Keeper (15)

• August 15 - Witness (15)

If you wish to know more about the film club please email Lesley Sutton on Lesley.sutton@zen.co.uk or ring 07939 336906 or visit the church website where all films are listed up to August this year. www.bcnchurch.org.uk.
