TALENTED trampolinists from Whitworth Community High School are excited after winning places in a national competition final next month – the first time the school has entered.

At the Northern Zonal Final in Newcastle, 14-year-old Izzy Bradley-Harris and Melissa Butterworth won places in the national final which is being held in Southampton.

Izzy won in the individual Year nine to 10 Novice class and also competed with her team.

Meanwhile Melissa competed in the individual Year nine to 10 Intermediate category and was second out of 40 competitors.

Izzy said: “The team was joint second but because only the top two go through to the national final, they then started counting back and we were then placed in third.

“At first, when I was competing as an individual, I was placed fourth, but that made me think that I needed to do better than everyone else and when it came to my second routine I did a higher tariff than the other competitors and I did better.”

Izzy trains at The Valley Leadership Academy once a week, as well as at the school club.

Melissa has been attending Bury Trampoline Club for three years and has previously competed in Southampton at an inter-club competition.

She said: “I am excited to be going to the final especially as it is the first time the school has entered this competition. Between now and the final, I am going to be getting a lot of practice in.”

Izzy added: “When it comes to a competition I seem to be able to just get things right and I like taking part.”
