Olympic medal

ROCHDALE Olympic Gymnastics Club travelled to Stockport School of Gymnastics to compete in the 2020 Stockport Rec 4 Piece Apparatus Championsh­ips with 20 of the Club’s gymnasts.

Following many amazing performanc­es of new skills, new routines and new vaults, the girls returned home with a fantastic medal collection between them, along with Charlotte Barrett, Amelia Hopkins and Sophia Schofield all being crowned Overall Individual Champions in their respective age groups.

Charlotte Barrett kicked off the days proceeding­s in Round 1 taking victory in the Aged 8 category with top spot in 1st place Overall, closely followed by Lola Whittaker in 2nd, Keira Sloan in 3rd and Tais Amorim in 5th.

Charlotte’s success was aided by medal positions on all 4 piece of apparatus earning 3rd on Vault and Bars, and 1st on Beam and Floor. Keira took the Vault and Bars titles in 1st place, along with a 3rd placing on Floor.

Lola was credited with 2nd on Beam, with Tais taking 2nd place on Bars. Isla Dixon had a fantastic outing in the Aged 12 group eventually finishing in 4th place Overall, followed by Maisie Whitlow in 6th place and Freya Howarth in 7th. Isla took 1st place on Bars with Maisie in 3rd.

The Aged 10 section in Round 2 saw Amelia Hopkins achieve top spot in the Overall standings taking 1st place on the podium, closely followed by Freya Burgess in 2nd and Scarlett Moore in 7th.

Apparatus medals were rewarded to Amelia who took 1st place on Bars and 2nd on Floor. Freya was deserved of 2nd on Vault, 3rd on Bars and 3rd on Beam, whilst Scarlett took 2nd place on Bars. Abigail Hinchliff had a 13th place finish in the Aged 11 category.

The Aged 15 category in Round 3 saw Amy Harrison back in competitio­n with a 2nd place Overall finish, followed by Charlotte Wystawnoha in 3rd, Holly Rodgers 5th and Katie Pickup in 6th. Amys overall win was helped with a 2nd place on Vault, 1st on Bars, 3rd on Beam and 1st on Floor.

Charlotte took 2nd places on both Beam and Floor. Holly earned 2nd place on Bars, with Katie in 3rd place.

Alexis Dawson had a great outing in the Aged 7 group with 2nd place on Bars, 3rd on Beam and 1st on Floor to take 2nd place Overall.

Sophia Schofield rounded off a highly successful day for the Club taking victory in the Aged 9 competitio­n in 1st place Overall, with Isabelle Ahern in 2nd, Isabelle Moseley-Dunne in 9th and Ellie-Mae Hill in 11th.

Sophia also took 1st on Bars and 2nd on Beam, whilst Isabelle Ahern was credited with 3rd on Vault, 1st on Beam and 1st on Floor.

Some incredible work from the girls earned them huge rewards and they now look forward to their next event where they will compete in Bolton in May.
