Opticians see a way to keep customers at home

-

VULNERABLE Rochdale residents reliant on prescriptions from Specsavers will be able to have necessary eyesight and hearing equipment delivered to their homes by staff from the optician’s Rochdale branch.

The out of hours service is being provided by staff in the evenings and at no extra charge to customers.

The aim of the initiative is to ensure that no-one is forced to either breach firm government instructions on social distancing and self isolation in order to collect essential items like glasses and hearing aids, or go without.

Specsavers Rochdale director Sarah Culshaw said: “With the country in lockdown, the team felt it was important that we do all we can to make sure nobody’s ear or eye health is put at risk during these difficult times.

“For many customers, particularly our older ones, leaving the house isn’t an option at all and the thought of facing the next few weeks without the correct prescription glasses or hearing aids is extremely scary.

“The team here at Rochdale have been more than happy to make deliveries after work and make sure no customer is left in the dark.”

Ms Culshaw added that services including buying glasses and contact lenses with a current prescription will still be available to customers in their online service.

Routine eye and hearing tests have been suspended at Specsavers while the country remains in lockdown to tackle coronavirus, with stores only being kept open to offer essential and urgent care to customers if it is deemed safe to both staff and customers to do so.
