Tributes paid to ‘much-loved’ GP

AMUCH-LOVED GP has died after contractin­g coronaviru­s. Dr Saad Al-Dubbaisi, who served residents in Rochdale for a number of years, had been ill for a number of weeks.

It’s understood the Baghdad-born GP, 59, died at Salford Royal Hospital on Sunday and leaves a wife and two daughters.

Patients, friends and colleagues have paid tribute to the ‘much-loved, compassion­ate’ doctor.

He was based at lead doctor at Garden City Medical Practice in Holcombe Brook, Bury and worked with Dr Zahid Chauhan at BARDOC the out-of-hours GP service for Bury, Rochdale and Bolton.

Dr Chauhan tweeted: “Heartbroke­n to hear the sad news of passing away of

Dr Al-Dubbaisi. We worked number of years together serving residents of Bury & Rochdale. “Rest in Peace. “Another amazing person, friend and colleague taken away from us by COVID-19.”

Rochdale councillor Faisal Rana tweeted: “RIP Dr Dubbaisi. Another NHS hero gone too soon.

“They are sacrificin­g their today for our tomorrow. God bless.”

Dr Jeff Schryer, chair of NHS Bury Clinical Commission­ing Group said: “It is with great sadness to hear the news that one of our GPs, Dr Saad Al-Dubbaisi, has sadly passed away after being very poorly for a number of weeks.

“Dr Al-Dubbaisi, was a much loved, compassion­ate and experience­d GP from Garden City Medical Centre.

“He was a popular and caring member of our general practice community.

“Dr Al-Dubbaisi cared for generation­s of the same families from his practice in Holcombe Brook for many years, he will be sorely missed by his work family and patients.

“Our health and care staff are the people who put themselves on the front line every single day, and our thoughts and condolence­s are with his wife, children and the dedicated practice team at Garden City at this incredibly difficult time.”

Dr Chauhan also told the Observer: “Dr Al-Dubbaisis was a very caring, very humble man.

“He very well-liked, not only among the doctors, but also the admin staff at BARDOC.

“He would come in in the morning and always bring cakes and croissants for everybody.

“The condolence­s have been pouring in for him.”

BARDOC tweeted: “We are very sad to learn of the passing of dear colleague and much loved member of team @NHS_BARDOC Dr Al-Dubbaisi.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family & colleagues at this very sad time.

“Thank you for your amazing work over the years. RIP.”

Writing on Facebook, family friend Amira AlAbadi said: “We have just received the terrible news of the tragic loss of our dear friend; Dr Saad Al-Dubbaisi who was working as a GP.

“He was battling severe coronaviru­s infection that he contracted while working at the frontline.

“He died today at Salford Royal Hospital.

“Dr Saad was a great man with a very kind heart and beautiful soul.

“He will be greatly missed and forever remembered for his dedication to his family and his work.

“Rest in peace dear friend. Our hearts are with his wife and his daughters.”

Radcliffe councillor Karne Leach tweeted: “Oh no I’m so sad to hear this! Dr Al-Dubbaisi has been my GP for over 10 years and he was a genuinely caring doctor who would always go out of his way to make sure his patients got the best care.

“I will really miss him. My thoughts are with his family and colleagues.”
