Takeaway trips carry high price
BRITAIN has been in lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus for weeks - but still police are having to deal with people who can’t follow the rules.
The latest example involved an incident on the roads near Rochdale.
The town centre policing team told how they stopped a Volkswagen Golf last night to speak to the occupants from Huddersfield.
Two people ‘decided it would be a good idea to visit Rochdale for a kebab,’ the GMP Rochdale account tweeted.
Not only did the pair have a ridiculous excuse for breaching lockdown rules, their vehicle was also found to be in an unsafe condition.
Police found a tyre that was almost completely bald. Police said the driver was also found to have no insurance and was therefore ‘dealt with for various offences.’
The VW Golf was also seized.
Meanwhile, police stopped two Rochdale motorcyclists who had travelled to Whitby for fish and chips. Whitby Town Police said on police: “Whilst Whitby would usually welcome visitors to sample our finest fish and chips, due to the current climate this does not constitute reasonable travel. Whitby Neighbourhood Policing Team were patrolling the A169 and stopped two motorcyclists who had travelled from Rochdale purely for fish and chips.
“Both were sent home and issued fines for breaching co-vid19 guidelines. Unfortunately for those motorcyclists we were in the right ‘plaice’ at the right time. We will continue to strive to keep our community safe.”
