Bungling house raiders uncover faces on CCTV

TWO bungling burglars uncovered their faces inside a woman’s home after breaking in - only to realise there were also CCTV cameras inside.

The victim was away on holiday when Sam Taylor and Kaylen Perry, both 20, broke into her home in Bamford, Rochdale, causing about £4,500-worth of damage.

Minshull Street Crown Court heard the woman’s home had been burgled twice previously so she decided to install CCTV cameras outside and inside.

Taylor, Perry and another man - who has not been identified broke into the property at around 1.45pm on March 8, by forcing the patio door open and smashing the glass.

A handbag and a money tin were stolen.

Footage showed the men in the living room and going up the stairs.

The woman handed the video to police. Officers were able to identify Taylor and Perry.

They had their faces covered outside the house, but not inside.

A third man kept his face hidden - he hasn’t been traced.

Following the incident, Taylor was part of a gang which tried to break into a Tesco Express store on Edenfield Road in Rochdale an incident which also caused significan­t damage.

A group of men, who had arrived in a stolen Peugeot, tried to force their way inside.

Police were called and Taylor was arrested.

He had cannabis on him.

Sentencing, Judge John Potter told them: “You two made a deliberate decision to do that, to undermine the safety of that woman in her own home.

“Those are decisions that you make, nobody else, and you must accept the responsibi­lity for those decisions.”

Taylor, of Coverdale Close, Rochdale, was jailed for two years, and Perry, of no fixed address, was jailed for 16 months.

They both pleaded guilty to burglary.

Taylor also admitted one count of attempted burglary; one count of allowing himself to be carried in a stolen vehicle; and one count of possessing cannabis. prison sentence.
