Darren’s marathon challenge raises £7k

-

NO training, preparation, problem. Darren Clancy of Littleborough decided on a Sunday night that it’s time he used his extra time during this lockdown for some good.

That extra time saw him get out of bed on Monday morning and by the end of the week having completed no no seven marathons in seven days.

The amazing accomplishment by Darren wasn’t just ran because he was a glutton for punishment, though.

Darren is one of the organisers of a night at Littleborough Boxing gym aimed for men who want to come in and have a chat if they are feeling down.

Knowing that current restrictions are seeing mental health on the increase, he felt the need to be pro-active and do whatever he could to help the situation.

All donations raised from Darren’s marathon challenge were given to the male suicide prevention charity CALM (Campaign Against Living

Miserably). Impressively, with a mammoth challenge put together so quickly, the donations currently stand at more than £7,400.

Darren said: “I wanted to do something for a friend Mark Topham, who sadly took his own life.

“Something I knew I’d struggle with – hence the seven marathons in seven days.

“Even though I struggled, I find running can help clear my mind. The money raised has been awesome and I’m very grateful for all the donations received on my JustGiving page.

“Please, if anyone is struggling, contact CALM. You’re not alone.”
