Red Rose bowlers return to training

-

LANCASHIRE’S bowlers are back in training as they hope to play some county cricket this season.

The Red Rose are one of only two clubs - the other being Surrey - not to furlough their staff during lockdown.

It means the players have been able to resume training, with an eye on some county cricket.

The ECB have already said there will be no domestic competition until August 1 at the earliest - and even that looks to be a tall order.

However, Lancashire want to ensure their players are ready if the sport is given the green light to start.

‘It is great to have the lads back in training’

Lancashire’s England players Jimmy Anderson, Saqib Mahmood, Matthew Parkinson, Richard Gleeson, Liam Livingstone and Keaton Jennings have been working with Glen Chapple at Emirates Old Trafford ahead of the forthcoming Test series against the West Indies.

They have now moved the Chester Broughton Hall, with the Windies in quarantine Trafford.

But in a separate session on Friday, the Lancashire players not in the England set-up took part at

Old in bowling practice while adhering to social distancing requirements.

Lancashire’s director of cricket Paul Allott, said: “It is great to have the lads back training. While we have been in contact throughout the last three months, there is no substitute for being able to work with them in person, while obviously observing all the relevant guidelines.

“Having our players back at least seven weeks prior to any competitive cricket allows us the best possible opportunity to get them physically ready, and their return is being closely monitored by the strength and conditioning team.”
