Pot’s wall mural tells a tale of ale
ATOWN centre pub has delighted punters with the reveal of a massive new mural decorating its interior.
Michael and Sarah Howarth, landlord and landlady of The Pint Pot on Baillie Street, took the opportunity of being closed during lockdown to invite painter and decorator Jamie Buckley in to brighten up a blank wall inside the pub.
However when Jamie suggested using the large wall as a blank canvas to create an eye-catching mural, the couple leapt at the chance. Michael said: “It tells the story of a pint you can see it from the hops in the field, to the breweries, then into barrels, and finally the horses bringing the beer to the pub complete with our pub sign.
“We’re well chuffed with it.”
Michael and Sarah only received the license to open the doors to their ‘micro pub’ in December, enjoying just over three months of business before lockdown hit and they were forced to close.
They asked painter Jamie to come along to the Pint Pot during its lockdown closure after seeing the mural he created on Edenfield Road, Norden, to commemorate VE Day on May 8, which featured poppies, Spitfire planes and a tribute to NHS charity champion Captain Tom Moore.
Michael said: “When he saw how big the wall was, he asked us if we’d be open to a full mural to help him expand his portfolio.
“We said, why not, left him the keys, went away and came back a week later and the reaction was just ‘wow’!”
Since reopening on Saturday July 4, Michael says the mural has been well received by customers, and by four in particular regulars Charlie, Ronnie, Ray and John, who are also depicted in Jamie’s creation.
Michael added: “It was a complete surprise but they came in on Saturday and were chuffed to bits.
“They can’t stop smiling about it and it’s going global now because they’ve sent pictures to all their relatives and some of them are in New Zealand and Greece.
“They’ve been great customers and stayed loyal so they deserve the recognition - and they always have great stories to tell as well!”
The Pint Pot is currently welcoming punters for socially distanced drinks, food and a chance to see its new mural five days a week, Wednesday to Sunday.
