Third coronavirus testing centre opens in borough

-

A NEW coronavirus test centre is opening.

The walk-in facility at Heywood Civic Centre was due to open on Wednesday, August 26.

Testing will be available seven days a week between 8am and 8pm.

The coronavirus infection rate in Rochdale currently stands at 40.0 per 100,000 people, the third highest in Greater Manchester.

Rochdale, like the rest of the region, is still under tougher restrictions to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Measures include not mixing with other households indoors or in gardens.

Coun Sara Rowbotham, cabinet member for health and wellbeing at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “Increasing numbers of people who are testing positive for coronavirus have no symptoms so we encourage everyone to get tested.

“We need to identify who has the virus so we can stop it spreading. If you live in Heywood, make the most of this facility and book your test today.”

Testing sites in Rochdale, Middleton and Heywood are open to anyone who would like a coronavirus test.

People do not need symptoms to attend, they just need to bring their confirmation email and identification.

The Heywood site, which opens initially for eight weeks, will have capacity for more than 400 tests each day.

Staff can provide a private testing bay for anyone wishing to complete their test in complete privacy.

People must arrive on foot, by bike or in a car with members of your own household.

They cannot be tested if they have used public transport to get to the site.
