●●ROCHDALE has the second highest Coronavirus rate in Greater Manchester (October 7)

Helen Doyle: 0.3 percent of the population in Rochdale! That’s not even 1 person per every 100 people. Time to stop this obsession with figures! Flu is killing more people than those who die with but not necessarily from it! This has been the case for over two months! As for saying at its peak this number died with covid it’s very questionable as to how deaths were recorded. Even the government has said that in some of these deaths they may have died from covid or even had it! Emergency legislation was bought in in March so all doctors did was view a dead body via video link from their office, they named Covid with no positive test done nor a post mortem to prove it actually was Covid! Once a doctor named Covid in a hospital with or without a Covid test they are added to figures inflating death rates! It’s time figures were out into perspective! These

●●This week’s Big Picture is a view towards Littleborough from Blackstonedge taken by Graham Dawson. Email your pictures to us at rochdale observer@menmedia.co.uk or upload them to flickr.com/groups/rochdalepics figures are out 100,000 people making it a very small number of people indeed. The media needs to stop presenting it such a way and making it appear to be worse than it is on reality! Covid is here to stay and we have to learn to live with it. Steven Roche: It’s 3 in every 1,000. Helen Doyle: That’s not high at all. But of the media put this as a headline it would not provide the scaremongering they currently are. For every 3 who test positive there are 997 people who don’t have it! Helen Doyle: I’ve had it and like 99 percent of those who have it it was a mild short-lived illness. It run its course and I fully recovered. I was more ill with flu which absolutely floored me. Kevin Hutchinson: Over 10,000 (and climbing) medical and public health scientists and medical practitioners are urging an end to lockdowns, calling for those who are not vulnerable to be immediately allowed to resume life as normal. The BBC reported this initially but have pulled it from teletext and relegated from their website’s news page despite there being 1,400 comments. Nichola Parker We have to learn to live with it I had it other week just like flu, about time Boris got on with it as well. Dave Tyson Amazing that it’s only up north? Grant Hinchcliffe Circuit break next week in the North thanks to decades of under investment in broken old industrial towns that are now full of low paid/skilled workers in high density areas.

Watching Jenrick on TV this morning comparing Manchester with Cornwall says it all.

●●HEYWOOD St James FC, one of the oldest amateur football clubs in the country, has been given a £22,500 grant to help them replace changing rooms which were destroyed in arson attack last September. Bosses at 137-year-old club have described the cash boost from the council as a ‘godsend’ (October 6)

Jeanette Scott: Nice to hear/see some good news.

●●ROCHDALE Register Office will move to a new home at Number One Riverside next year, when the town hall closes for restoration.

Work on the new space is underway and expected to be finished in 12 weeks. From midJanuary, couples will be able to take a look around the new venue, which will also include access to a roof top terrace with views across the Pennines (October 5) Michelle Johnson What lovely wedding photo that will be, dirty River Roch with council offices in back ground. A joy for any happy newly weds! Tbh though we’re lucky we have the Town Hall. Look at some of the register offices around the country. Some are pre fab 1970s building. Dayne Ryan All these comments slagging off the council for this temporary move. It’s still better than 90 per cent of the registry offices in the country. We’re just lucky we have the town hall in the first place. Peter Oakley: Dayne Ryan Totally agree with you there. There are so many bland registrar offices around the country. Guess its the easy replacement as long as its temporary. Peter Oakley: I get that its a temporary move but doubt many couples will jump at the chance to marry there instead of the town hall. Maybe for a small fee extra when the town hall reopens they can do a photos opportunity for the couples that miss out and the amazing historic building Rochdale town hall is. Alison Penketh: Town hall is lovely for a wedding and Broadfield park for pics. Liesl Beckles: It’s not quite the same as getting married in a beautiful historical building though.

●●POLICE crackdown on off-road bikes and quads ‘eroding moorland, poisoning water and killing cattle’. Police outlined a long list of complaints about off-road vehicles as they launched Operation Dragster (October 4) W El Aware: I’ve an idea, build some tracks. Sarah Price: What about Croxton Avenue, since they took the speed bumps out they think it’s a bloody race track. Sharon Taylor: Try Woodbine Street it’s cram jammed with quads and bikes. Paula OToole Meegahawela: Rochdale and Oldham Road, some think it’s acceptable to do 60 mph normally on the wrong side?
