Signing group miss out on BGT crown

-

FAN favourites Sign Along With Us narrowly missed out on being named Britain’s Got Talent winners in the final on Saturday.

The group, who perform popular songs with sign language and include members of Rochdale Youth Choir, lost out to Jon Courtenay, a comedy singer from Manchester.

Sing Along With Us, from Middleton, was originally launched by

Jade Kilduff for her little brother, Christian, who is partially sighted, to help him learn to speak.

The group now has over 90 members. Due to restrictions, only some of the group appeared in person, whilst the rest appeared on a screen behind them.

Despite their loss, the group were heavily praised by the judges following their rendition of Miley Cyrus’ hit song The Climb. Judge David Walliams,

who gave the group the Golden Buzzer earlier in the series, said: “I could not be prouder.

“You saved the best until last. I am delighted and thrilled for you all.

“I would love to see you win this.”

Second judge Alesha Dixon said: “It was such a meaningful song. Looking into your faces and seeing your passion. That was so moving for me personally. You’re a sign of joy and hope.” Posting online, Jade wrote: “I love my group so much and they have put endless amounts of effort into this. They all deserve this so much and I’m so incredibly proud of every single member. Our story is so moving and the feeling I felt after our performance was something that will be with me for the rest of my life.

“Christian is a little miracle and is showing the world sign after sign how amazing he is.”
