Teams ready to give free packed lunches

NUMEROUS organisati­ons are now offering free packed lunches this half-term to hungry children in Rochdale to support families in need.

Many people are struggling, with foodbanks under more pressure than ever and parents out of work due to the pandemic.

The issue has been highlighte­d after footballer Marcus Rashford’s petition for free school meals in school holidays was thrown out in the House of Commons last week.

Here is a round-up of places in Rochdale offering a free packed lunch for children:

●»NUTTERS RESTAURANT They are providing 500 packed lunches per day for Rochdale children in conjunctio­n with The Empire on Packer Street, between 11am and midday. 2. ●»THE GRAPES at Bamford, Norden Road Call 01706 649895 and ask for Nic - all orders will be treated with the strictest confidence and the only proof require is honesty. ●»GOODFILLER­S SANDWICH BAR, Halifax Road Call in with your child from 11.30am and they will be provided with a packed lunch. ●»4. HOLY CREPE, Nowell Road, Middleton Get in touch on Facebook or by calling 0161 643 7520 to reserve a packed lunch. The shop will be open from 12noon to 1pm to give them out. ●»BUSY BEANS COFFEE, Victoria Street, Littleboro­ugh Children will receive a free toastie and a drink. ●»BASIL’S TRADITIONA­L ENGLISH RESTAURANT, Market Street, Whitworth Free lunch and evening meal grab bags. Collection 11.30am to 1pm, delivery 11.30am to 1pm.
