Four arrested after stabbing in street
FOUR people have been arrested after a stabbing on a residential street in Rochdale. A large emergency response was prompted after police were called to a disturbance on Heywood Road in Castleton on Sunday morning.
Eye witnesses described seeing more than half a dozen police cars, paramedic vehicles, and ambulances at the scene.
The victim, believed to be a teenage boy, was found to have suffered knife wounds during the attack. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Greater Manchester Police say they later arrested four people in ‘various locations.’
They remain in police custody for questioning, with enquiries said to be ongoing.
Neighbours reported seeing a large group of young men on bikes on Heywood Road, shortly before the stabbing occurred. Police cordoned off a section of the road throughout Sunday morning, to carry out their investigations.
One local resident said: “I saw a kid on a bike and another one arguing they looked about 14 or 15.
“Then the next thing the police came. They got here really quickly.
“I heard one of the boys got stabbed with a machete.”
Another said: “I just heard that someone had been stabbed.
“There were more than half a dozen police cars, a couple of medic cars and an ambulance.
“The young lad was going into the ambulance and I could hear him telling them that he didn’t need one. You just can’t fathom it really.”
A spokesperson for GMP said: “At 10.41 hours on Sunday 25th October 2020, officers attended reports of a disturbance at Heywood Road, Rochdale.
On arrival they located a male with stab wounds which are not life threatening. Four people were detained following the incident, at various addresses. Enquiries are ongoing.”
