2020 Christmas TV

-

CHRISTMAS this year is likely to be a different experience.

Will we be able to see family and friends?

Will we be able to go out for a meal, see a show or have a night in the local?

Whatever happens it is likely that Christmas TV will, for many, be of more importance than usual.

Here is a preview of some of the family favourites we can expect.

Doctor Who Christmas Special, BBC1

The Doctor Who Christmas Special 2020 promises to be the jewel in the crown of the BBC’s Christmas TV schedule.

Surprisingly, this will be the first festive special since 2017 and Jodie Whittaker’s first Christmas outing as the Time Lord.

It is expected to screen on Christmas Day, although this is still to be officially confirmed. The Daleks are back! The festive special will see the return of the Doctor’s most famous and most feared enemies.

The Time Lord is locked away in a highsecurity alien prison, continuing from where the last series left off.

Call the Midwife Christmas special, BBC1

Having dealt with some extremely naughty sheep last year in the Outer Hebrides, this year the gang are in Poplar.

Everyone is hoping for a nice uneventful Christmas, but of course that doesn’t happen!

Sister Monica Joan is rushed to hospital, while Trixie is less than impressed to receive a subscription to a Marriage Bureau as a Christmas present.

Meanwhile, the circus is in town as ex Time Lord Peter Davison plays Mr Percival the Ringmaster.

All Creatures Great and Small Christmas special, Channel 5

Bringing All Creatures Great and Small back for a new series turned out to be a genius idea and now there’s a festive special.

Nicholas Ralph returns as James Herriot – will James be kissing Helen (Rachel Shenton) under the mistletoe?

Callum Woodhouse will be getting into more trouble as mischievous Tristan Farnon, while Samuel West will be trying to keep order as Siegfried Farnon.

Plus, Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) will no doubt be tasked with preparing Christmas dinner.

Birds of a Feather Christmas special, ITV

The hit comedy returns for the first time in three years, but it won’t feature Pauline Quirke as Sharon.

Poor Sharon is apparently stuck on a Covid-cruise, leaving Tracey (Linda Robson) and Dorien (Lesley Joseph) to bicker all over Christmas.

Dorien being Dorien of course has a new fella and this one is played by Les Dennis.
