AMANAGER of a hairdressers has now become the owner, achieving her dream of opening her own shop.

Sarah Sweetmore has worked at Bamford Barbers, on Bury Road, Rochdale, for 20 years.

She began as a Saturday girl before becoming manager 10 years ago.

Now, Sarah, 38, has become the owner of the shop, and is looking forward to the shop getting the green light to open again when lockdown restrictions lift.

The shop is also introducing discounts for both NHS staff members, and those who are part of, or have served in the Armed Forces.

Sarah, who lives in Heywood, said: “Me becoming the owner has been in the pipeline since last August. During the first lockdown I thought it needs to happen now because I wanted it all over and done with.

“It’s a community-based hairdressers. We have put on more offers for everyone in the Bamford area.

“We have a lot of people who are doctors and nurses - there are offers for NHS workers and those who are in the Armed Forces.”

Sarah said the hairdressers is truly a team effort.

She added: “Some of the staff have worked here for over 20 years.

“As a team, we all work well together.

“We have a new stylist starting in January too - it should have happened in July, but we have had to put it back due to Covid.

“I have always wanted to open my own shop.

“We’re keeping the same name, because we have been established here for 30 years so it’s quite wellknown.

“Customers only found out a few weeks ago, but we’ve had a lot of good responses.

“People have congratulated us.”

Sarah continued: “We are currently waiting to see what the National Hairdressing Federation says about what’s happening.

“I don’t want to book anyone in and then have to cancel and them to become disheartened.

“Last time we only thought we would be off work for a few weeks, and it was five months.”

“I have always wanted to open my own shop”
