Man is charged over farm death

A MAN from has been charged in connection with the death of a man in Heywood.

Peter Cordwell, 48, a father-of-three, is believed to have suffered a medical episode following an incident at Collop Gate Farm last month when police were called to reports of a burglary.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene but died later.

In a statement Greater Manchester Police said today: “Ahman Mirza, 35, of Norris Street, Lincoln has been charged with three counts of attempted section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, one count of violent disorder and one count of possession of an offensive weapon.

“He is due to appear at Lincoln Magistrate­s’ Court today (Saturday 14 November 2020).

“At around 11.15pm on Wednesday 28 October, police were called to reports of a burglary at units off Manchester Road, Heywood.

“Officers attended and found a man - one of the owners - had suffered what is believed to have been a medical episode and died a short time later.

Hundreds of tributes were paid to Mr Cordwell, known affectiona­tely as “Creamy”.

He was Director of Spodden Mill Ltd in Heywood according to Companies House and a former Director of PGC Demolition.

He was one of the owners of the farm on Manchester Road where he died.
