AKINDHEARTED hairdresser from Littleborough has raised more than £1,500 for children living in hostels in Rochdale.

Georgina Cowap, 29, decided to put her time to good use after she had to temporarily close her business, The Beauty Spot, in Newhey, due to the pandemic.

The determined mother-of-two quickly smashed her £1,000 target with her crowdfunding campaign, and is using the money to create ‘Elf Care Packages’.

The packages will include pyjamas, slipper socks, an advent calendar, a selection box, a Christmas book, a Christmassy shower gel and a toy elf.

Now more cash has been raised, Georgina will be adding essentials like underwear, vests, socks and tinned goods.

Any excess cash will go to charities for homelessness in Rochdale.

On top of raising the cash, Georgina has purchased all goods, wrapped them, and will be delivering the herself.

The packages will go to Great Howarth Families Unit, and Safenet Domestic Violence.

Georgina said: “When I closed the hairdressers I thought it was a perfect opportunity to do the Christmas hampers for children.

“At the hairdressers this is normally our busiest time of the year.

“I have kids of my own and I want to do it for other children who don’t have what they have.

“I put a crowdfunding appeal on Facebook and lots of friends, family and clients have donated.

“The packages are more essentials for some of the older children.”

Georgina has been “overwhelmed” by the response.

She said: “I’m really overwhelmed.

“Everyone has supported the cause, and everyone has come together and made an effort.”

Georgina is mum to Eva, five, and Tommy, three.

Sister Jeannette Topham added: “She has done amazing.

“As a family we are so proud of her.

“She has done all of this because of covid and having to shut her hairdressing shop and wanting to put her time to good use.

“She always goes above and beyond for others and we love her lots

“Not many people could pull it off raising over £1,000 in two weeks and turning it from an idea to reality, making sure children in Rochdale have a Elf package.”
