Man wants speeders dealt with

AMAN has hit out at the police and Rochdale Borough Council saying they have not tackled problems with speeding drivers that have now been ongoing for several years.

The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, lives on the A58, Halifax Road, going towards Littleborough, Rochdale, Greater Manchester, where he says problems with speeding drivers have been escalating.

He said: “It’s come to a bit of a head when we had a car crash into the wall right outside our house.

“There were three cars racing down. They got out of the car, locked it, then got into another car and disappeared.

“We told the police, including the registration number, and nothing was done. “It has been escalating.” The road is a 30mph area, but the resident alleges drivers travel at speeds of up to 80mph.

He added: “We have had two fatalities in 18 months.

“We spoke to the council about putting average speed cameras in.

“The police talked about issuing neighbours with mobile speed cameras - that was proposed but nothing ever came of it.

“The police blame the council, and the council blame the police.

“Myself and my little boy were out walking the dog, and three cars came past, honking their horns, at around 80mph.

“The following night a car came up and hit the wall right where we had been walking.

“It is the unknown of these people who don’t know the road who are going to kill some innocent people.

“It has been going on for years - I have been onto the council and police for about four years.

“We have two little boys and we do a lot of walking.

“We go up the road and down to the canal but it’s got to the point where we don’t want to be walking that way.

“Other neighbours have also put in complaints.

“I feel that nothing is being done.”

A spokesman for Rochdale Borough Council confirmed they are “increasing parking enforcement in the area.” GMP have been contacted for comment.
