Sweet treat for staff who battle against fly-tipping and litter

-

COUNCIL workers who go out in all weathers to keep our streets clean and litter-free have received a special thank you.

Councillor for Spotland and Falinge, Faisal Rana, delivered boxes of chocolates to the Streetscene operatives who keep his ward looking spick and span all year round.

Normally, Coun Rana and his fellow councillors, Rachel Massey and Wendy Cocks, put on a special thank you event for the staff at Christmas - but this year, because of Covid-19 restrictions, they have been unable to do so.

Instead, Coun Rana has provided the chocolates as a token of appreciation.

He presented the gifts to the Streetscene operations manager Gerard Proudman.

Coun Rana said: “Usually the local councillors hold a Christmas party for these hard-working staff as our way of saying thank you and well done for all their hard work.

“We can’t do that this year so I have donated chocolates instead. It’s not the same, but it’s important to let them know just how much we appreciate and value all their efforts in keeping our area so clean and tidy.

“Our Streetscene staff go out in all weathers, picking up litter, removing leaves and weeds, and tackling grot spots and fly-tipping.

“They do a remarkable job and it’s important to say ‘thank you’ for all their efforts day in, day out.

“They are the council’s unsung heroes. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

“They make such an important contribution in improving the quality of life for our residents.

“Next year, we are going to pull all the stops out and have a really big celebration to make up for the one we’ve missed.”
