Plan to move from perms to pints

-

PLANS have been submitted to create a new micropub in Rochdale.

The plans would turn a former hairdressers, S1 Hair, on 18, Drake Street, into D’Ale House.

A heritage statement says there a “high level of vacancies” on Drake Street, and it is hoped the micropub would help to drive up footfall to the area.

The statement said: “This development proposal seeks to ensure the medium and long-term use of this town centre property.

“Clearly, in achieving this aim, a balance needs to be struck between the requirements of town centre operators and heritage concerns, namely the desirability of preserving the building or its setting or any features of special architectural or historic interest which it possesses, the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character and appearance of Town Centre Conservation Area.

“In general terms, the proposal seeks to establish the use of the building as a micro bar using the ground floor and basement.”

The external shutter would be replaced with an internal one, and no walls or doorways would be removed.

The statement added: “Due to the minimal works required, the new use would respect the historical interest of the building and its setting. The removal of the external shutter would greatly improve the external appearance of the building. The proposal could not be regarded as resulting in harm or failing to preserve the character.”

It would be open from 11am to midnight Monday to Friday, 11am to 1am Saturday and 11am to midnight on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
