Join Samaritans for ‘virtual brew’

-

THE local Samaritans group is encouraging residents to connect over a virtual cuppa as part of their ‘Brew Monday’ events.

To help beat the winter blues the district Samaritans for Rochdale are organising the event for people to check-in on loved ones, over a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Held on Monday, January 18, which is traditionally known as ‘Blue Monday’ for being the most difficult day of the year, the Rochdale, Oldham and Districts Samaritans are aiming to turn the day on its head and into something positive.

Moyra Purves, an organiser for Samaritans, said: “It has been a winter like no other.

“The challenges that many people face during this season have been felt more acutely this year with the pandemic.

“There couldn’t be a better time to reach out for a chat with someone you care about.

“It doesn’t have to be a Monday or a cup of tea, it’s just about taking time to really listen to another person which can in turn help them work through what’s on their mind.”

She also stressed the importance of listening to building supportive relationships.

She said: “Listening helps us build relationships, be there for others and it can save lives.

“Through our virtual event, we hope that we can help more people to support others and make a difference.”

Samaritans volunteers will be helping the local community to become better listeners by launching its first online ‘Learn to Listen’ event on Tuesday January 19 at 7.30pm to Heywood,

Middleton & Rochdale Circle, alongside other events.
