Mental health expert at Dale
ROCHDALE have been working with a top sports psychiatrist since October as part of the club’s commitment to nurturing mental health among the playing staff.
Dr Allan Johnston has previously worked with Olympic athletes and football managers and coaches.
A statement on the club’s website read: “The mental health of our players and all staff at the Club is extremely important to Manager Brian Barry-Murphy, a vision that is shared by our Chairman and Board of Directors.
“We are proud to announce that since October, English football’s only Sports Psychiatrist, Dr Allan Johnston, has been working with Rochdale Football Club, offering support and advice across the Club, particularly to the first-team squad, on mental health and well-being.
“Dr Johnston works with the likes of the Team GB Olympians and Paralympians through the English Institute of Sport, as well as the League Managers Association (LMA) to help improve the mental health of football managers and coaches across the game.
Via Zoom, due to the current lockdown restrictions, we sat down to interview Dr Johnston to find out more about his work with the Club. Watch the whole interview above via iFollow Freeview.
“We’ve seen through social media that some fans are finding the latest lockdown restrictions very difficult. It’s important to remember that you’re not alone and there is support available out there. Dr Johnston has advice for any supporter who may need it.”
