AN online support service has been launched by council leader Allen Brett.

Coun Brett congratulated the Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture (CWTC) in Rochdale for its online courses in Health Awareness and Employability Skills.

The CWTC, based on Belfield Road, is a charity primarily supporting those in the BAME community, including people living with dementia, providing training sessions in career skills, holding sessions in their Wellbeing Cafe, and providing bilingual services.

Coun Brett said: “I am proud to announce and congratulate Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture for using their digital expertise in developing online courses and cultural activities under very challenging circumstances to meet the social, cultural, information and linguistic needs of service users of the borough and Greater Manchester.

“This is great news for the diverse communities to enhance individual knowledge and skills in health awareness and job skills and move into digital inclusion. Rochdale Borough Council supports CWTC in many ways and encourages our Voluntary Sector to thrive.

“I am also thankful to the Community Fund, Arts Council and Children in Need for their funding to CWTC to support this development.”

Mohammed Sarwar, Chief Executive of CWTC, said: “I am grateful to Councillor Allen for launching our online service. This is our proud moment.

“We have been working very hard over the last eight months through the guidelines to learn the process for online systems, develop content materials and recruit online tutors.

“Previously we had delivered the courses face to face, but due to the pandemic, we were not able to deliver some of the services.

“This will now enable us to continue some of our online services for future.

“We do pride ourselves on digital expertise, but this has mainly been possible through our funders who have been very understanding and flexible to utilise the funding for the need to develop this service and resource.

“There is also a lot to develop to meet the linguistic and cultural needs, but with the support of diverse colleagues and our staff, we will continue to support our communities.”

Coun Brett also mentioned the details for vaccination which are available on council’s website.

He also had the vaccination with no adverse effects and no reaction, assuring people that it is safe.

He requested everyone to work together, keep social distance and keep safe.
