ANINE-YEAR- OLD boy who saved the life of a fouryear- old girl when he spotted her drowning in a pool has received an award for his actions.

Quick-thinking Frank Emsley, from Middleton, was on holiday in Tenerife in October when he saw the tot, Olivia Grace, under the water.

Realising he couldn’t hold his own breath that long, he swam to the girl and lifted her above the water.

She was blue and foaming at the mouth - but paramedics were called, and her life was saved thanks to Frank.

Now, the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) has awarded him their Young Person’s Certificate of Commendation.

Frank was presented with the award on a video call just before

Christmas.

RLSS UK’S ‘ Young Person’s Certificate of Commendation’ is awarded to those people under 18, who exemplify the quick- thinking and courage it takes to take action, and save a life.

RLSS UK’S Director of Charity, Lee Heard, said: “Frank was only nineyears-old when he saved this little girl’s life.

“That’s something that will stay with him and with her, for the rest of their lives.

“For such a young person to spot the incident, then have the confidence and courage to help the girl and immediately call for help, deserves huge praise.

“It was an honour and a delight to meet Frank when we did our video call presentation, he’s a credit to his family and his community.”
