ACOMMUNIT Y group was left amused but annoyed when a piece of ‘modern art’ appeared on a pile of rocks at the top of Rooley Moor.

A fridge/freezer covered in slogans appeared at the top of the pike.

They read “There is no such thing as art only artists” and “Peace on earth, good will to all men”.

NEEVA Norden Environmental & Economic Village Association posted on Facebook that the local farmer James Redfern and association member Paul Ellison has removed it to a location for Rochdale Borough Council to collect safety.

The post said: “It seems that this piece of ‘modern art”’, the monolith fridge/freezer has made people smile and comment, but obviously fly tipping is never acceptable in any form.

“Job done tonight But they could of left a beer in the fridge though.”

And earlier post said: “The stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze!”

But the post sparked a discussion on the Rochdale Observer Facebook page:

Melanie Jones said: “The world is full of idiots!”

Lee Wilky said: “Loads on Newbold, nothing new tbh”

Andy Cragg: “Surprised the local scrapman’s not had it away yet.”

Brian Townsend: “Andy Cragg scrapyards are not allowed to accept fridges unless they have been degassed and only approved firms are allowed to do it by law. Ex scrap operative.”

Andy Cragg: “Brian Townsend bet you’re an absolute riot at parties. “I’ll tell you another thing about scrap metal”. Like a scrap metal Uncle Albert.”

Brian Townsend: “Looks pretty cool.”

Andrew Lancaster: “They were probably just chillin.”

Andrew Hope: “Rochdale’s Gebleki Tepe.”

Dawn Burgess: “Is this right up on the hill? Cos that’s some distance to carry it.”

Gary “Looks there.”

David freezing.”

Whitbread: freezing up
