THREE kindhearted boys will be running a 10k to help raise £10k for the Renal Unit at Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Brothers George, eight, Oliver, five, and Freddie Harper, four, will be running from Norden to Bamford with their dad Alasdair, 38, to raise the cash.

They are aiming to raise the money because Alasdair’s colleague has a son in desperate need of a kidney transplant, who is currently being cared for by the hospital.

Ethan Cutting, 16, from Ramsbottom, was born with only half a kidney.

He received one from his mum age four, but sadly this kidney has now failed, as transplants are a treatment, not a cure He is now back on dialysis seven nights a week again, while he waits for a donor.

Alasdair met Ethan’s dad at Woodhey High School - Alasdair and Mr Cutting are both part of the PE Department, and Mr Cutting has worked there for 36 years, teaching more than 10,000 pupils.

Many pupils are also undertaking challenges - trying to complete 10,000 steps in two PE lessons and a 10k challenge of their choice outside of school, for example a 10k run, cycle or row, at their own challenge level.

So far, over £8,000 has been raised.

The boys will be running at 10am and finishing at Norden Chippy.

It is expected to take them around two hours with them running a relay.

Proud mum of George, Oliver, and Freddie, Liz Harper, 37, has lived in Norden since she was a child, and has lived there with Alasdair for the past 20 years.

She said: “I am incredibly proud and I think it’s a thing that will touch everyone’s hearts.

“It’s your worst nightmare that your child would need to stay at the hospital.

“I will be feeling quite emotional on Saturday.

“You will see them running in matching t-shirts - if you do, please give them a clap, or put some money towards the fundraiser.”

The boys were inspired when they heard their dad discussing the run he was doing.
