Summer scheme to help younger people develop

-

THE National Citizen Service (NCS) is running two programmes in Rochdale this summer.

The programme takes place in the summer holidays and is open to all 16 to 17-year-olds across England and Northern Ireland.

There are two programmes running in Rochdale this summer, starting on July 19 and August 2, so teenagers can pick a date which works for them and their family.

The NCS is designed to support young people’s personal and professional development and promotes social mobility and engagement.

They spend time together taking part in various activities, such as rock climbing, gorge scrambling and canoeing.

They also take part in skills sessions that will set them up for life and a social action challenge that will see them volunteering in their local community.

NCS equips each young person to take control of their future and their employability.

It develops skills which will enhance CV’S and UCAS applications but will also serve them well into adult life.

These skills are more important than ever as the young people have had to isolate for many months due to Covid-19 and this will hugely benefit their mental health and wellbeing.

NCS is planned in line with all government guidelines regarding Covid-19.

A three-week programme runs from July 19, and for two weeks from August 2.

The only difference with the two-week programme is that young people will stay local instead of doing a residential week.

They will gain the same experience, develop the same skills and have all the adventures that NCS set out to provide.

The NCS are keeping their provision under constant review to ensure they can keep all our young people safe.

If needed, programmes will be two weeks of non-residential activities in case of restrictions.

NCS is governmentfunded, so while the whole experience costs £1,500 - you only need to pay £50 for the entire experience, including food, accommodation, transport, and activities.
