THE world-famous hotel group Hilton has confirmed plans to open a new hotel in Rochdale town centre.

The proposals were approved this week for the new 146-bedroom Hampton by Hilton accommodation.

It’s all part of a £50m mixed-use scheme of development for the town centre, which will also see 242 new homes built.

The first Hampton by Hilton in Greater Manchester opened late last year on the outskirts of the city centre.

It’s a more affordable offshoot of the brand behind Beetham Tower’s main Hilton hotel, with rooms starting from £39.

Plans are now in place for another branch of the hotel in Rochdale, as part of a joint venture between Genr8 Developments and Kajima, along with Rochdale Borough Council and Rochdale Development Agency.

Located on a brownfield site at Penn Street and New Baillie Street, the hotel will span 55,000 sq ft across seven floors.

The scheme will also include two apartment blocks spanning nine storeys, and office space.

A mix of one – and twobedroom apartments will be built, offering city centre-style accommodation for rent.

Mike Smith from Genr8 Developments said: “This is another significant step-forward in the wider regeneration of Rochdale.

“We are really pleased with the planning approval and look forward to kickstarting this exciting scheme.

“This scheme will deliver high quality hospitality, living and working space in a sustainable, thriving, and eclectic neighbourhood.

“Having a major brand such as Hilton as part of the development at this stage is extremely exciting.”

Graham Dodd, managing director, development, UK & Ireland Hilton said: “Rochdale’s growing importance as a regional business and leisure hub makes it a fitting location to introduce Hampton by Hilton – a brand that is now present in more than 2,660 locations worldwide.

“We’re pleased to be working with Genr8 Developments once again and look forward to welcoming guests in Rochdale.”
