Police officer is injured as van crashes with car
AN OFFICER has been injured after a police van smashed with a car.
The officer thankfully suffered only ‘minor injuries’ and is receiving medical treatment, Greater Manchester Police said.
The driver of the car, believed to be a Ford Focus, was taken to hospital as a precaution, the force added.
No further information about their conditions has been released.
Photographs taken at the scene in Milnrow show the liveried Greater Manchester Police van with damage to its front.
The bumper of the vehicle was shown hanging off.
GMP confirmed the van was answering a 999 ‘emergency request’ for assistance from North West Ambulance Service at the time.
Elizabethan Way was closed between Buckley Hill Lane and the A6193 Sir Issac Newton Way.
Police said enquiries were continuing.
The collision happened at around 2pm on Saturday, resulting in long tailbacks of traffic in the area.
The road has since been reopened.
The damaged Ford Focus was photographed parked on Harbour Lane, which runs off Elizabethan Way.
Paramedics were also pictured at the scene.
No further information has been released.
In a statement, GMP said: “Shortly before 2pm this afternoon, a police vehicle was in collision another vehicle on Sir Isaac Newton Way near to Elizabethan Way, Rochdale, whilst attending an emergency request for assistance from our colleagues at the North West Ambulance Service.
“One police officer sustained minor injuries in the collision and is receiving medical treatment.
“The driver of the second vehicle was also taken to hospital as a precaution, as the investigation into what happened continues.”
