Search on for new £95,000 a year health boss

ROCHDALE Borough Council is advertisin­g for a new Director of Public Health and Wellbeing to oversee the authority’s health policy on a salary of £95,000 a year.

Alongside wider public health initiative the new director will be accountabl­e for the control of local outbreaks of infectious diseases including local pandemic management.

They will also be responsibl­e for the delivery of local mass vaccinatio­n programmes, which comes at a crucial time as Rochdale is an area where the Covid cases trend is on the up.

The latest infection rate in the borough is 282.6 cases per 100,000 people. There were 632 cases recorded this week, which is 42 more than the previous week.

Andrea Fallon was the last Director of Public Health at the council while Kuiama Thompson is the current acting Director.

According to the job advert someone with ‘a proven track record in improving the health and wellbeing of local communitie­s’ is preferred.

As well as being responsibl­e for Rochdale’s public health programme the successful applicant will also work with other public directors across Greater Manchester as part of the Unified Greater Manchester Population Health system.

The new head will have a leadership role spanning all three domains of public health; health improvemen­t, health protection, and population health management.

This will include tackling major priorities such as childhood obesity, tobacco, alcohol, child poverty and health inequaliti­es.

Based at the Number One Riverside building, the successful candidate will receive a salary up to £95,481 p.a.
