Police name victim of road crash tragedy

A MAN who died after being hit by a van in Heywood has been named as Czeslaw Rozal.

Mr Rozal, who is understood to have been in his 50s, was struck by a Vauxhall Astra ‘carderived van’ on Monday, August 23.

Police were called to Pitt Street in the town to reports that a vehicle had collided with a pedestrian.

The male pedestrian - now understood to be Mr Rozal - passed away in hospital a short time later as a result of his injuries.

A spokespers­on for Rochdale Coroner’s Court confirmed a file relating to his death had been passed to the coroner.

Police initially arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has since been released under investigat­ion.

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for informatio­n from the public on the incident.

Police Constable Suzanne Keenan, of GMP’S Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit, said previously: “A man has very tragically died as a result of his injuries following this collision and as such, we are continuing to appeal to the public for informatio­n.

“Any informatio­n you have could help us provide his loved ones with the answers they deserve.”
