School pupils are set to stage dramatic return

AHIGH school is planning to return to the stage with its first drama production since 2019.

Weekly rehearsals have already started at Whitworth Community High School for their new production Robin Hood.

It is the first time the school has been able to put on a production since the pandemic hit.

When casting place, Charlotte took Evans originally read the role of the sheriff, but it was suggested she try for Robin Hood, and was picked.

The 13-year-old said: “I was four when I started acting with Helen O’grady Drama Academy in Castleton.

“I have always loved acting and I want to be an actor when I am older.

“Robin Hood is our first school show since Covid; we did start rehearsals for Romeo and Juliet last year, but there were so many isolations it was impossible

At 11, Charlotte moved to Carol Godby’s Theatre Workshop in Bury and is now also on the books with Bury theatrical agent Linton Management.

She has previously been in a Heykids production in Heywood and played the role of Nancy in Oliver! - the last school production staged by Whitworth in 2019.

Charlotte added: “We are rehearsing every Thursday and we will also be in school over the halfterm holiday and on a weekend nearer to the production time.

“I still get nervous before I go on stage and it is hard to learn lines, but there are different techniques you can use.

“When I am at the side of the stage, sometimes I forget what I am going to do, but once I get onto the stage it just happens and it all comes back to me.

“Our drama teachers are brilliant and you can approach them at any time and they will stop what they are doing and help you.”

Luke Ratcliffe, 13, was also in Oliver! as Mr Brownlow, and in December he will play the role of
