Home comforts pay dividends for Boro

- RUGBY UNION HARRY HANSON LITTLEBOROUGH ....... 25 HEATON MOOR ........... 21

PRIOR to the match, Boro’s President Richard Holland arranged his first club meal for V.PS and Guests.

His main guest was the President of Lancashire, Gill Burns, ex International Ladies Player and after the meal she thanked Boro for her invitation.

After the match she announced how good it was to see the commitment in the match by both club players.

After 10 minutes of play there was no score, then excellent wing run saw Liam Lloyd score Boro’s opening try plus conversion by George Roberts.

The opposition then retaliated but Mathew Goldthorpe made a strong tackle for Boro.

This was eventually followed with a successful penalty by Roberts and again surprise attacking run by Goldthorpe. Then good link play between Boro’s Chris Park and Jack Whittles, followed by further penalty by Roberts. Then Boro came under increasing pressure in their own 25 metres area and unfortunately Cam Kenworthy was sent off by the referee for 10 minutes and Boro had to continue defending.

But finally the visitors did cross the tryline for try only. At the end of the first half Boro had a 13-5 lead.

In the second half, Boro played down the slight slope and began to attack, but suddenly the visitors broke loose and scored a converted try with 20 minutes play left. Again the visitors took play into Boro’s half for a further converted try, leading to some uncomfortable moments for Boro.

Once again Goldthorpe was impressive with his defence for Boro and then followed a further try by Boro’s Charlie Sutcliffe and this was converted for Boro to retake the lead back by a solitary point.

In the last minute of the match Boro’s seasoned player Mark Murgatroyd crossed the line for a final try for Boro – no conversion.

This was only the second game at home for Boro and they have now made it two wins out of two.
