Mor to come from Dale’s goal hero!

-

AARON Morley is hoping Rochdale can now push on in League Two after victory over Sutton United at the weekend.

In a thoroughly entertaining match at the Crown Oil Arena, Dale looked to be on course for three points when goals from Alex Newby and Liam Kelly put them two ahead.

However, despite going down to 10 men, Sutton responded with two late goals and appeared to have snatched a point heading into injury time.

But Morley’s stunning strike from outside the box secured a 3-2 win for Dale to the delight of the home crowd.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Dale talisman said: “I think it got headed away from their centre half and I just took the touch and shot and I just knew it was in - it was right in the corner!

“It’s an unbelievable feeling – we made it hard for ourselves but we came away with the three points in the end.

“It’s a mix of feelings in the changing room – a bit of relief and a bit anger at how they scored two goals coming from 2-0 down but three points is all that we wanted and we got that so everyone is buzzing.

“I think even when they had 11 men on the pitch I think first 10-15 minutes we had control of the game but as soon as the sending off happened they sat back and we had a lot of possession.

“In the end they score two goals from a corner but we got the three points. [The plan] was to just get it forward and get it in their box and see what happens because anything can happen!”

On whether the victory can trigger a run of form for Dale in League Two, Morley said: “Definitely. I think the last two games we drew we deserved a bit more out of but this time we get the three points and hopefully it leads to us having a bit of a run.

“It’s always devastating when the other team score in the last minute but luckily it was us today so I am just delighted.”

Now, Morley is hoping to get his name on the scoresheet on a more regular basis after notching his first goal of the season.

“I think I was on a few more by now at this point last season but hopefully it opens the floodgates now!”

Dale’s next league match is a trip to Barrow today (3.00pm kick-off).
