CELEBRITY chef Andrew Nutter served up his final meals at the renowned Nutters restaurant in Rochdale last week - and Manchester United legend Gary Neville was there to say his final farewell.

Gary has long been a fan and supporter of the restaurant and attended one of Nutters’ “last supper” events celebrating all the most popular dishes served at the venue over the years as part of the final week at the restaurant.

Chef Andrew announced October would be the restaurant’s final month after 28 years.

Andrew told the Observer at the time that the turmoil of lockdown and continuing crisis in staffing in the hospitality industry influenced the decision to sell up and “go out at the top of the game”.

Football legend Gary, who has now made a name for himself in the hospitality world with his own restaurants and hotels across Manchester with the Stock Exchange and Hotel Football, headed to Nutters last Wednesday night with wife, Emma. He posted a selection of photos from the final night, including with chef Andrew, 50 and his mum Jean Nutter, 81, with a framed portrait of the restaurant’s cofounder Rodney Nutter, who died four years ago.

Gary said: “Thank you @andrew_nutter_ and @ nuttersrestaurant! 28 years of incredible food and experience.”

Adding: “Will miss you.” Followed by a heart emoji.

Chef Andrew cooked for the final time at the historic former Wolstenholme Hall site on Saturday night to a packed restaurant of diners before closing the doors at Nutters for good.

The fine dining venue is recommended in a host of top food guides, including the Michelin Guide, while chef Andrew has won a raft of awards as well as appearing on TV cookery shows like Ready Steady Cook and having his own series Utter Nutter on

Channel Five over the years.

But the venue is set to remain a restaurant - with a sale currently ongoing to the family behind the Albert’s group who runs restaurants in Worsley, Castlefield, Didsbury and Standish.

A spokesperson for the Albert’s Group told the Observer earlier this month: “We hope to take over the Nutters site in the coming weeks and we look forward to sharing our exciting plans for the site as soon as we are able.”

After the final service, chef Andrew said: “I’m planning to go into events and providing private dinner parties in people’s homes in various locations around the world.

“It’s not all doom and gloom. We wanted to go out on top.”
