Thief rips artificial grass out of garden

- BY ADAM MAIDMENT

ACAN-SWIGGING, bucket hat-wearing thief nicked a patch of ARTIFICIAL GRASS from a family’s front garden.

The crook ripped up the fake turf before making a run for it.

He was caught on camera during the bizarre incident, at the Heywood home Courtney Henderson, 25, shares with her family.

She discovered her plastic grass had been pilfered when her mum woke her up on Monday morning.

“My mum opened the curtains and was like where’s the grass gone?,” Courtney said.

“She was really confused at first and rang my dad asking if he knew why someone had taken the grass.

“They’ve literally left everything else but the grass. It’s really bizarre because it’s like the smallest piece of grass ever.”

Courtney says she spoke to her next door neighbour about the incident, who was able to share camera footage of the theft taking place at around 9pm on Sunday evening (November 7).

“You can see a guy walking past with a can in his hand, he sees the garden and decides to take the grass,” she added.

“It was at around 9pm, like an hour after my dad got in. I was literally sitting behind the curtains on the couch at the time.

“I don’t think it could be someone trying to sell it for money because it’s the tiniest thing ever, it must only be worth around £100 at the most.

“When we’ve shown people the picture of the grass, they just start laughing as they can’t understand why someone would steal something so small.”

Courtney, who runs her own beauty business, has shared the camera footage online in a bid to try and track down the thief.

“I just don’t get how no one has seen a man walking down the street with a roll of grass,” he says.

“He’s got a distinct walk and he’s wearing a bucket hat. Surely someone knows this guy as there can’t be that many people walking around Hopwood with a can and a bucket hat.”

Courtney says her and her family are making light of the situation, although it’s something that’s going to take a while to fix.

“You’ve got to laugh about really,” she added

“My dad literally just put the grass down a month or two ago and my mum’s been telling him that he’s clearly not put it down properly because someone’s just whipped it up.

“We keep laughing about it, it because my mum’s dead fussy so it was done perfectly for her and when it finally got done how she wanted it, it was taken.

“It took my dad ages to perfect it and how he’s going to have to start again. He’s not found the time to replace it yet.

“But he’s not going to hear the end of it, we literally keep laughing about it because it’s just so unbelievable.”
