Fruitful first Hoylake trip for Boro boys

- ADM 1ST DIVISION HOYLAKE....................10 LITTLEBOROUGH .....35 HARRY HANSON

LITTLEBOROUGH RUFC travelled to Hoylake for the first time, having met them at home a couple of seasons back.

It was the longest journey of the season for Boro but that did not prevent a great travelling support by Boro fans – and a winning result to boot.

The weather was a bit wet but Boro got stuck right in and Mathew Goldthorpe made an early attacking run to take them into opposition 25m territory. This was followed with a good early kick to touch by Andy Walton.

After constant pressure from Boro they were awarded a penalty after 10 minutes which was converted by Nathan Coop for an early lead.

Constant pressure by Boro in Hoylake’s half of the pitch suddenly found Goldthorpe again with the ball and he broke loose to run in a brilliant try, again converted by Coop, after 25 minutes.

Hoylake finally broke into Boro’s half of the pitch and after a few moments attending to an injured player they took over and ran in their first of two tries, no conversion.

A good attacking run by Boro’s Jack Whittles and yet another successful penalty by Coop was followed by good attacking run by David Kearns. The ball was passed down the line for winger Liam Lloyd to run in Boro’s second try, no conversion.

A good attacking run by Boro’s Murgatroyd brought the half to a close with the visitors 18-5 to the good.

Hoylake then started to take advantage of the turnaround but not for long – Boro broke loose again with geat running and passing followed by another try, this time by Whittles, plus Coop’s conversion.

This was followed by good attacking run by Boro’s youngster Tom Laidler.

Boro came under constant pressure again but conceded no points until finally Hoylake crossed the tryline without conversion.

Late in the game and right out of the blue the ball was charged down for Boro’s Goldthorpe to cross the line for his second try of the day and Boro,s fourth.

Finally, a further try for Boro by George Roberts brought the game to a close, a fine performance all round from Boro.
