ACHRISTMAS-LOVING street in Rochdale has gone all out with their decorations in a show of true community spirit.

The entire street of Rooley Street, Rochdale, has lit up early this year, after the residents originally clubbed together last year during lockdown to cheer themselves and local children up.

This year, residents held a light switch-on, with a gazebo where people could enjoy hot chocolate and hotdogs.

Mum-of-three, Charlotte Moss, said: “It’s the whole street and it’s a team effort.

“We started last year in lockdown - we were all friends and we were just talking and decided to put the lights up - it’s escalated to what it is now. “It cheered us up. “We have quite a few kids that live on the street and we live near a primary school so we have a lot of children that walk past.

“When we did it last year it was mid-november.

“With dark nights it can only be done in the evening as we work, or on the weekend.

“It was freezing last year so we thought we would start putting them up earlier when it’s more mild.

Charlotte’s three children are aged 10, nine, and five.

She added: “We had a light switch-on with a gazebo and we did hot chocolate and hotdogs.

“Everyone came and people from the other street over did too.

“There’s a lot of community spirit. We love Christmas.

“My next door neighbour has a six-year-old too and the whole street is involved.”

GMP Rochdale even picked up on the display.

On social media, they said: “PCSO ‘Hawkeye’ Stewart was out and about and spotted a particularly festive-looking Rooley Street. Good effort Rooley Street, and thank you, I can now justify putting my own tree up!”
