Green scheme is on list for award treble
ROCHDALE Boroughwide Housing’s (RBH) pioneering refurbishment scheme at Buckley View in Smallbridge, delivered by partners EQUANS and designed by TADW Architects, has been recognised with three upcoming award nominations.
The scheme has been shortlisted in ‘large scale project of the year’ and at the North West Energy Efficiency Awards, for ‘sustainability project of the year’ at the Aico Homelink Community Awards 2022, and for ‘best retrofit initiative’ at the Northern Housing Awards.
Tina Iball, RBH Strategic Lead for Sustainability, said: “We are working hard to improve the quality, energy efficiency, and comfort of our homes and reducing our impact on the environment.
“This project makes a great contribution to playing our part to meet Greater Manchester’s carbon neutral targets by 2038. We have received some great feedback for residents at Buckley View and we are delighted that this pioneering scheme has been recognised with three award nominations.”
RBH provides affordable housing across the Rochdale area and is the UK’S first tenant and employee co-owned mutual housing society, with over 12,000 homes throughout the local area.
The scheme has seen 23 bungalows receive investment to help improve the energy efficiency of the homes and reduce carbon emissions using a whole house fabric first approach.
Work carried out includes replacing cavity wall and roof insulation, external wall insulation with a brick slip finish, upgraded ventilation, and new windows and doors.
These additions will improve the efficiency of the homes, aiming to improve thermal comfort, reduce consumption, and lower carbon emissions as a result.
The refurbishment is one of a series of demonstrator projects that RBH is carrying out. Projects will inform RBH’S ongoing approach to improving the energy. efficiency of homes and helping to identify the best ways to meet Greater Manchester’s 2038 target to be carbon neutral.
