Rugby club given £5,530 to help gain new converts

ROCHDALE Mayfield ARLFC has been awarded £5,530 to help grow the game of rugby league across the borough.

The money will be used to fund new equipment and a programme of afterschoo­l activities to help more people play rugby league at grassroots level in Rochdale.

The grant funding was awarded by the Created By Rugby League World Cup Capital Grants Programme - and was delivered in partnershi­p with The National Lottery, the Rugby Football League, Sport England and the

Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Createdby programme funding was made available to support the legacy of the Rugby League World Cup by growing participat­ion in the sport.

Neil Ramsden, chairman at Rochdale Mayfield, said: “We are delighted to receive this grant and look forward to seeing the results of this investment that will support the clubs aim of providing the very best in terms of training and playing facilities and support the club in growing the game of rugby league within the borough year on year.

“On everybody’s behalf we pass our thanks go to the government and The National Lottery for supporting the Createdby programme.”

The Rugby League World Cup 2021 will be all inclusive, with the men’s, women’s and wheelchair competitio­ns simultaneo­usly, under one banner for the first time.

Jon Dutton, chief executive, RLWC2021, said: “The Createdby RLWC2021 Capital Grants Programme is focused on ensuring the next generation of rugby league players have the best possible experience, and barriers to participat­ion are removed.

“We are delighted to award this grant to Rochdale Mayfield and look forward to seeing the results of this investment that aims to deliver real change in their community.”
