Jules heads for hills in search of charity cash
His late mum inspired trek for dementia hub
AKEEN amateur walker from Littleborough is embarking on a challenge to walk from John O’groats to Land’s End next month in aid of raising thousands of pounds for The Willows Dementia Hub in Rochdale.
Jules Tomlinson, 58, will fly out to Wick in Scotland on Thursday and the following day he will begin his challenge by setting out on foot from John
O’groats and walking the long-distance route, known as the End to End Trail that follows paths and tracks rather than roads and he will take to the hills wherever he can.
He estimates it will take him four months, finishing at Land’s End in September.
All money raised will go to The Willows Dementia Hub, to help with the invaluable work they do to support people living with Dementia.
Jules’s mother Kathleen Smith lived with Dementia until she died last year.
She attended ‘Comfort Days’ at The Willows Dementia Hub.
Jules said: “I have always wanted to take on a challenge like this and thought after my Mum passed from this horrible disease, that there was no time like the present and I wanted to offer back my support for the Willows Dementia Hub that gave our family the help and support we needed when Mum had Dementia.
“The service she received was brilliant and we will forever hold the Willows in our hearts. I realise it’s a massive challenge, but I have been in training and know that my Mum will be with me supporting me all the way.”
The Willows Dementia Hub in Rochdale offers specialist high-quality care and support for those living with Dementia, carers and their families from across the borough.
Offering 22 permanent residential places, ‘Comfort Day’ services which is a welcomed respite for our service users’, carers, and families as well as our Willows at Home service that offer specialist
bespoke Dementia care for service users in their own home, bringing them independence for as long as they can do so.
